The personnel and equipment of the Tallulah Fire Department are at a historic peak in performance capability in protecting the citizens of Tallulah and Madison Parish.  Ensuring maximum fire protection for parish residents, the City of Tallulah entered into a Cooperative Endeavor Agreement with the Madison Parish Police Jury for added fire responsibility of fire service to parish citizens is now equally shared and shows residents that their protection is paramount.

Currently, the Tallulah Fire Department has four  operational fire trucks, and all fire fighters are certified by completing comprehensive training at the Monroe Firefighter Academy or through LSU.  As one of his first moves in office, former Mayor Paxton Branch purchased a rescue/service truck for the department.  One of the benefits of the new service truck is the ability to carry vehicular rescue equipment which can be used during major car accidents.

Under the leadership of Fire Chief Harold Allen, the Tallulah Fire Department is working hard toward two goals:  lowering Tallulah’s fire rating, which in turn lowers insurance premiums for homeowners, and maximizing fire prevention.  The addition of the new rescue/service truck will give the department credit towards a lower fire rating.  And, throughout the year, the department sends firefighters to local schools and community events to share information on fire prevention.

With five full time firefighters and 16 volunteer firefighters, the Tallulah Fire Department is always looking to increase their capacity.  With two fire stations inside the city limits, the department also has five stations located throughout the parish:  Afton Station, Mound Station, Delta Station and Bear Lake Stations 1 and 2.   The department accepts applications for volunteer firefighters year round.
